When creating a text message, you’ll notice that there’s no hard-and-fast character limit. Instead, you’ll see how many characters you’ve used to create your message. This is because (believe it or not) some characters actually count as more than one character.
Characters you should watch out for:
- Emojis
- Accented characters
Occasionally, if your message is longer, you’ll notice that your message may be split up into two or more segments. This means that your message may be split up into multiple messages once it reaches a participant’s phone, depending on the carrier they’re using. If you want to avoid this, we recommend checking your message for emojis or accented characters that may be taking up extra space and either remove them or shorten the text to accommodate them.
This could impact:
- the participant experience, and
- billing, as we bill partially based on the number of text message segments sent
